Well, my mousewheel doesnt work. Unforunately, this is not just a problem which can be solved with "ZAxisMapping 4 5" as I've learned from trying hard.
First, what I have done is this:
- compiled kernel 2.6.8.1 with mouse support and the event-Module
- followed these instructions:http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=46
everything of this tutorial just worked fine, but if I use "xev" which prints all mouse events to a terminal, the side buttons and the wheel do not cause a message (like all other buttons do). Also if I do a "cat /dev/input/mice" I can see all 3 Buttons and movements of the mouse, but nothing happens if I press one of the other 4 Buttons (wheel included).
I use a MS Intellimouse at the read USB-Port of my Thinkpad, which has, as most Notebooks, a Touchpad.
the mouse itself works fine and it also works under my old Suse linux. (so the hardware cannot be the matter)
Does anyone have an idea where the problem lies?
thx a lot in advance,

And what mouse driver do you use?
Try IMPS/2. |

I've tried IMPS/2 and ExplorerPS/2. Both of them did'nt work. In the meantime I've done a "cat /proc/bus/input/devices" on my gentoo (not working) and suse (working) installation. I've disabled the touchpad in the BIOS.
gentoo:
Code: | I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000
N: Name="PS/2 Generic Mouse"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
H: Handlers=mouse0 event0
B: EV=7
B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
B: REL=3
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0001 Product=0001 Version=ab54
N: Name="AT Translated Set 2 keyboard"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio0/input0
H: Handlers=kbd event1
B: EV=120003
B: KEY=4 2000000 3802078 f840d001 f2ffffdf ffefffff ffffffff fffffffe
B: LED=7 |
and on the Suse :
Code: |
I: Bus=0010 Vendor=001f Product=0001 Version=0100
N: Name="PC Speaker"
P: Phys=isa0061/input0
H: Handlers=kbd event0
B: EV=40001
B: SND=6
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0001 Product=0001 Version=ab54

B: EV=120003
B: KEY=4 2000000 3802078 f840d001 f2ffffdf ffefffff ffffffff fffffffe
B: LED=7
I: Bus=0003 Vendor=045e Product=0039 Version=0300
N: Name="Microsoft Microsoft 5-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM)"
P: Phys=usb-0000:00:1d.1-2/input0

As you can see, the Mouse is recognized differently by the gentoo and the Suse.
So, is this a kernel problem? I have configured my kernel thoroughly. What can I have forgotten?
I have to say that the hotplugging works on the suse but not on my gentoo. How can I get the hotplugging working?

Problem solved. I've forgotten to compile the right drivers for the USB into the kernel.
