hi,

i still trying to install ...

i can wget computers ans stuff so my network card and seems to work ... i did the rest right too (i think)

but when i try to run emerge synch it says

/etc/make.profile isnt available
and that there is no profile directory and that the system mode unavailable.

what did i do wrong_

Well you might have spelled sync wrong :D Did you edit the /etc/make.conf file replacing the existing address with the one that needs to be used now?
To edit the file:
nano -w /etc/make.conf
That will open the file in the nano editor for edditing of course :D In that file look for the uncommented line (the one withought the # sign in font) with the address that doesn't work anymore. Replace it with "rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage". Here is the line you will be looking for: SYNC="rsync.whatever.whatever". Whatever it says, can't remember exactly, replace it with the address I listed above.

emerge rsync should now work fine if it doesn't then most likley there is a problem with accessing the server from your location, possibly a bad router somewhere. I to was getting that error about the /etc/make.profile not being available but it was due to not having activated dhcp for my nic or atleast after activating that and editing the make.conf file the problem went away and that portion of the install went fine.

i have one all that already ...

sorry about the spelling ... i ceep switching between different kezboard sets ...

no the problem is that icant find the system mode ... and doesnt have a profile directory (i guess)

2 days and I was spelling the stupid word 'rsnyc'.
