This is a cross post from linuxgames forum, they don't have as much attentandce there as here, and I am also a staunch gentoo distribution user so might as well turn to you guys..
Apparently others can play Doom 3 on 2.6.8 just fine. But I can't. I was thinking about rolling back to 2.6.7 but rather than do that, I'd like to get to the bottom of the problem.
For all the details about my Doom 3 problems, I think it would be better to just link to them, so here they are: http://www.linuxgames.com/forums/index.php?t=msg&th=38
I also have other problems, possibly related. The distributed.net client (dnetc) will not run, complaining about possibly having CONFIG_SYSVIPC not set (but /proc/config.gz says otherwise) and a similar problem for qizmo (quakeworld proxy) -- something about not being able to initialize message queue.
Other than that, everything is pretty smooth, and I still have to boot into WINXP for other games such as Warhammer 40,000...
Thanks in advance |

I looked in some other threads on here, and I tried the LD_PRELOAD trick, unsuccessfully:
phil@agro phil $ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 doom3
./doom.x86: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
phil@agro phil $ ls -l /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 44 Oct 7 23:16 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -> /usr/lib/opengl/nvidia/lib/libGL.so.1.0.6111
phil@agro phil $ md5sum /usr/lib/opengl/nvidia/lib/libGL.so.1.0.6111

I was getting a opengl error with Doom3 and some other games, and I fixed it by re emerging glibc with USE="nptl" and that fixed the issue. Mind you, you will also have to re emerge your nvidia drivers.
Give that a go and see what happens...
Good Luck!!!
