Ok, whenever firefox loads a page (this all has nothing to do with emerge and/or compiling) it beeps. And it's annoying as all @#$% !

WHAt is the dealie with this? This started happening AFTER I emerged the current one (*r2).

Thanks in advance to anyone who can solve this.

That's really weird...

Not a real fix, but a temporary solution might be
Code:

xset b off

Yeah, it would have only worked if the beeping where the typical console beep. That command would have told X not to make any noise when applications beep, or when a ^G character is echoed to a terminal... If you ran the command while running X and it had worked, you would still have had to do it every time you started X, plus whatever the real problem is would still be there.

Do you get any kind of error messages when you run firefox from an xterm? If you do, please post them and maybe I (or someone else) might be able to tell exactly what's causing it.

I got the same problem, and google is no help. here is my "running firefox from console" log http://pastebin.com/193690

I cant find any sound settings in firefox that seem to work, and i cant find a cause (it randomly started happening after a reboot)

Its emerged with the debug use flag, making it beep whenever it errors (from what ive seen so far)

Code:
USE="-debug" emerge mozilla-firefox
