I tried to setup gentoo the way i wanted this past summer, but I never could
get kde 1 or 1.2 stuff to work. I have several old kde 1 apps that i've been using
in redhat 6.2 and before that i just can't do without. I've had no luck just copying
the old apps and libraries to gentoo and i can't really find old kde 1 source to
compile. What i could find, I couldn't get to compile. I have 3 or 4 versions of
kde in my old redhat, and scripts to change change paths and stuff so i can run
whichever i want, without messing stuff up. It might be some kde 1.4 stuff. I
really can't remember for sure. I was even able to get the old kde stuff to run
under freebsd, netbsd, and openbsd, using their redhat 6.2 compatibility packages.
Anyway, its the old kfm and kisocd, that i've got to have. I love how you can
start and stop the old kfm, for drag and drop purposes and its really fast compared
to the newer stuff, and i'm really comfortable with this stuff. I've gotten a bunch of
apps working in gentoo that i never could get to work in redhat 6.2, and i would
like to switch if i can get the old stuff working. There was also an old copy of wine
i use with an old eudora, and the newer versions of wine all crash eudora, but i
can change mail programs. Anyway, i want things to try to get old kde running
in gentoo. |
