ok.. It appears that emerge tenebrae works for the 1.0.5.etc-r2 nvidia drivers and not the 1.0.6.etc ones. So, my question is, if I downgrade to 1.0.5 and run an opengl-update nvidia. And then emerge. Then upgrade to 1.0.6 again and do an opengl-update nvidia, will I be able to run it ok? Also, If I downgrade to 1.0.5 will I be able to run things I compiled when I had 1.0.6 in? Confused
Also, is there any huge problem to useing the 1.0.5 drivers (are they slower?) I notice that you need the 1.0.6 drivers in order to use nvidi-settings correctly. |

it is because they are masked...
try the following command
Code: | # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge =nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r2 |
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" ( to accept to emerge masked package )
=nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r2 ( tell emerge exact version you want to emerge ) |

thnx. I have the 1.0.6 drivers now though, the problem is that tenebrae does not emerge using the 1.0.6 drivers but does emerge correctly using the 1.0.5 drivers and the x11 drivers. My question is that if I downgrade to 1.0.5 just to install tenebrae and then upgrade again to 1.0.6, will the emerged tenebrae work even though I have used new drivers? |

depends if it is compatible with newer version... you could give it a try by forcing emerge of tenebrae with no dependencies and emerge manually the dependencies to the versions you want to use and see the results...
you could also take a look at http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net/ and see if it works with the newer version of the drivers...
unfortunately there is a lack in portage that when you start using masked packages or even earlier good working versions of packages then dependency trees are all fu$%ed.... its missing some AI in portage to calculate dependencies in a better way |
