It could be lots of things:
If you're using an initrd, make sure you have the compressed ROM file system, squashfs, ramdisk support, initrd support, etc turned on in your kernel. Or try without an intrd altogether (don't use genkernel).
You could also try passing gentoo=nodevfs on the kernel line in your grub.conf. Or make sure you have devfs support in your kernel. Try toggling 'mount at devfs boot'. Use udev instead....
Look closely at the partition specifications in grub.conf -- double check everything.
If you _are_ using intrd, you need something like init=/linuxrc in your grub.conf..
It could also be a bunch of other things.
Hope that helps... Someone might have an idea of something more specific.

i did a stage1 install so i don't have an initrd
i don't know how to use udev or even what it is.
if someone would be so kind as guide me with how to use it to get my box to boot into linux that would be awesome.
do i just emerge it?
and if i use it do i HAVE to take out <>mount devfs at boot ?
i don't understand this stuff.
what is devfs? and why should i disable it? |
