Hi people!
when I write mail with smime sign (I have a certificate) using evolution 2.0, I have the following error message:
Code: |
Unable to create the message.
Unable to add the SMIMEEncKeyPrefs attribute, you should need to select a different mail options.
|
The original message is in italian (i'm italian!) and I traslated it!
Any idea?
thanks a lot and... sorry for my english

Hi,
ran across the same error and found this solution:
you have to trust the Certificate Authority that issued your signing certificate.
Go to settings -> Certificates -> Authorities -> find the Cert. Authority that belongs to your certificate and click "Edit". Then check at least the "Check this CA to identify email users" check box.
Since that has been done, the signing works perfectly in Evolution! Enjoy! |

hi,
i tried this too, but no luck
i got a free cert from thawte (i choosed the netscape one) and trusted the certificate authority of thawte. i can import the certificate on the tab "contact certificates" where also other certificates are stored if i get a signed mail.
but there's also a tab called "your certificates" where i can't import my cert, so i can't select any certificate for my address...kind of hard to describe...
may some screenshots help? tell me...
anyone else had such problems?

No, you have to get the certificate into "Your certificates" to use signing. The "contact certs" is only for encrypting mail that you want to send to other people.
There are quite a few things that can be wrong: are you sure you obtained a personal signing certificate from thawte (and e.g. not an SSL sert for a WWW server) ? If so, is it in proper format? Anybody correct me if I'm wrong but I think it should be in PKCS#12 format, i.e. containing the private keys. Such cert usually has a .p12 or .pfx file extension.
A hint: are you able to import the cert into the windows certificate store? If yes, it can be easily exported to the p12 format and imported to evolution. I have done it this ways and it works beautifuly. |
