now it works but I have to change the driver in XF86Config to "nv" and "opengl-update xfree" but that isn`t comfortable, because I`m playing other games like quake3 and for this game I need the NV drivers... |
I wonder why I don't have to do this. I don't even have to restart X for it work...only change from nvidia to xfree via opengl-update. Maybe it's because I'm using 4191 drivers. |

hm I`m confused, now I try only to switch to xfree (opengl-update) and it works, last time I did that it hangs but who cares, now it works _________________ Gentoo Linux / gentoo-sources 2.6.28-r1 / fluxbox 1.1.1

Has anyone thought of making a little script that would execute opengl-update xfree, run frozen-bubbles, then on close run opengl-update nvidia? |

I use a little bash script to do just that...very simple, mind you, but effective. I had to add the opengl-update command to sudoers. Call it what you will...
Code: | #!/bin/bash
sudo /usr/sbin/opengl-update xfree
frozen-bubble
sudo /usr/sbin/opengl-update nvidia

How could that have anything to do with artsdsp? |

I'm not saying that this have anything to do with artsdsp, but I just say that I get Frozen-bubble works with this method !
I'm not on my computer, so I can't try with artsdsp. Maybe when I will go home, I will let feedback on my experience. |

OK, to to summarise people get a segmentation fault when running frozen-bubble normally but the problem disapears when doing either of the following:
1 opengl-update xfree, and running it as normal
2 artsdsp frozen-bubble, with or without nvidia's opengl library
but disabling sound completly with frozen-bubble --nosound still produces a segmentation fault!
What on earth is the connection here? |

Hmmm true..
artsdsp gets rid of the segfault for me, but also for me frozen-bubble --nosound still produces a segfault. |

none works for me (anymore) ...i got a little problem with kde (botk 3.04 and 3.1) and a foo ramstick, so i won't do any experiments on my gentoo
in either way i run it, i get a compilation error considering perl and /usr/bin/frozen-bubble's 43th line _________________ tea+free software+law=hook

Not sure if oyu know this I believe all (and definately my) problem was after compile//instal when we went to run it, not during compile... |

well, i do have it installed, and i was watching this topic since it started.
...the problem is that it was working fine with the opengl-update xfree, but now it doens't want to anymore ...there's probably (=very surely) something wrong with my gentoo (concerning kde and probably something else) ...i'll try to remerge kde and X and a few other things when i find the time, replace the foo ramstick and my brother leaves for a week, so i have compiling time ...man, i need a comp for myself! _________________ tea+free software+law=hook

Oooh my bad I re-read your initial post and realised that it's perl and that's why you get a compile error...
I'm a C programmer, compiling and running are two completely different concepts for me . |

no prob ...i use the same difference, but i just wanted to make it more clear where the prob is
Code: | Can't locate fbmdkcommon.pb in @INC (<a list of locations>) at /usr/bin/frozen-bubble line 43.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/frozen-bubble line 43. |
...that's what i get ...maybe i'll look a bit into it tomorow _________________ tea+free software+law=hook

just to refresh this post a little:
I am running flux on an updated 1.4_rc1
I get the seg fault by default, and switching to opengl-update xfree gives me the same error as running artsdsp frozen-bubble (with xfree and nvidia opengl):
Quote: | [SDL Init] libpng warning: Application was compiled with png.h from libpng-1.0.12
libpng warning: Application is running with png.c from libpng-1.2.5
libpng error: Incompatible libpng version in application and library
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed) |
Don't know why it works for everyone else. I have tried various combinations of things and still nothing. |

looks like frozen-bubble was compiled against on older version of libpng and you have since upgraded it. Try reemerging frozen-bubble so that it compiles against the newer libpng and see it that helps. |

Re-emerging dev-perl/sdl-perl might be more advisable, as that provides the module which forms the the glue between Perl and SDL. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to re-emerge frozen-bubble too though. |

Yeah, frozen-bubble running through artsdsp works here too!
Now I'd really like to know where this strange behaviour comes from... |

What was I thinking.... KDE after all is good at something! Running frozen-bubble!
Had KDe installed for my mom to use, and gave a shot at the artsdsp trick, and it also worked out for me _________________ Lego my ego, and I'll lego your knowledge
