Note: It's located at another host instead of the 'usual' one
Changes
- CK patches are updated (mapped_watermark is even rewritten from scratch) and they now hold Ingo Molnar's latency patches (which were also in previous nitro releases, aka 'latency patches from mm') and Ingo Molnar's 'preempt the big kernel lock'!
- vesafb-tng + gensplash are out, they are broken anyway and will be back when Spock updates his patches
- Microsoft X-Box pad support is new
- Secure Computing API is new
- ipw2100 drivers are in (yeah, it's not in the notes) but I don't see it appear in menuconfig  (and the menu items are in drivers/net/wireless/Kconfig). Anyway, emerging ipw2100 still works as well
Warnings, READ THIS!
- This release is hosted at another location than the previous releases because my usual host was down when I wanted to upload this release. So renaming an old ebuild to match the version won't work, you should download this ebuild instead and copy it over to /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources (and redigest and emerge as usual)!
- Although this kernel is rather stable, I experienced weird behaviour of the Mapped Watermark II patch. When I had azureus (a bittorrent client) running, my memory went up to 100% very quickly and a lot of stuff was cached and my machine became unusable slow. I only experienced this with azureus running (and downloading  ), everything else seems to do fine. Check it out yourself, but remember: always keep a second stable kernel image ready in your boot manager to avoid unpleasant experiences
- I just saw that I forgot to remove some reject files, it's not a problem but it makes the patch file bigger for no reason. I guess it's time to sleep ..

Any reason you don't have amd64 in the ebuild keywords? I keep forgetting to add it and then I wonder why emerge -pv nitro-sources doesn't list the updates. It makes me cry  .
edit:
Running it now...so far so good...
I use btlaunchmanycurses.py and it doesn't seem to have any memory problems but then again that is about as far as you can get from azureus so who knows. |

Yeah, but -ck and -mm 2.6.9 needs to be done first

*Sigh* Still the same freeze like all other nitros since rc2-nitro1. Even with all debug enabled, nothing on the screen when it locks. Since 2.6.9-rc4-mm1 does run flawlessly, I guess it's ck-related.
Where can I get the pure reiser4-patches you use for the nitro-sources? I know they are broken-out in the mm-directory, but I dont want to manually apply all those single files. I guess I will apply first reiser4, and then one ck patch after another to see where the problem is. |

Try 2.6.9-ck1 and see if it still freezes. If it does send a mail to the -ck mailinglist!

Thanks, gonna try that now. Basicly, before writing a mail to ck-list, I wanted to have at least *some* kind of information where/why it hangs
I guess its related to reiser4/smp/ck - that mixture doesnt work well. |

i just started using nitro last release, and i don't think i'm ever going back.
this kernel is rock stable for me, and besides the framebuffer issue, it runs great on my inspiron 8600.
i'd like to say thanks for the great patchset, keep em' coming.
i can't wait to see what's in the next release. |

Im sitting here w8 for nitro 2.6.9-r1 But this kernel is also rockstable and supreme fast on my desktop the unrar issues i had before is gone no slowdowns at all! Thanx for making this kernels for us Nitro is simply the best!

This release works like a dream !!! For me it's the best since rc1-nitro4, by far
All problems I've seen in previous nitros (madwifi, oops on shutdown) are gone... Plus it's faster !

Yeah, sorry about that, simple lack of time.
I truly hope to be back in full flow by Christmas but before then I have month without the internet!!!!
I am moving house tomorrow (23 Oct) and won't have Internet until 19 Nov at the earliest, which is the soonest BT can put a phone line in. I am just praying that once it is in I can get Broadband (Which will be another week being activated) and not be stuck on dialup....
Anyway, If I survive I should be back by December and truly hope to have my site back up and running then.
Apart from that, thanks Seppe and all those helping towards Nitro and have a good few weeks. |
