I don't know if this topic has to go here, but I didn't found in which forum to put it:

when I wan't to emerge OpenOffice I get a problem:
first it says that it doesn't compile with gcc3.4.2, so I type:
Code:
gcc-config --list-profiles
[1] i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.3
[2] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.2
[3] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.2-hardened
[4] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.2-hardenednossp

and then switch to number [1] ans source /etc/profile

Then, when I type emerge openoffice, i get the following :

Code:

emerge openoffice
Calculating dependencies ...done!

I am not sure what the problem may be (did you do source /etc/profile after gcc-config changed gcc version? Or just log out and log in again:-).

But it may be easier to emerge openoffice-bin (or openoffice-ximian-bin). Compiling openoffice takes ages...

Yes, I did a /etc/profile after changing the gcc-config.
So, you don't know where this problem come from ?

If nobody can help me, I think I will emerge the binaries, but I prefer to recompil it if it's possible.

Could you post the relevant part of the config.log? It should be in /var/tmp/{package}/work/{package}/config.log

Here is the config.log file:

Code:
This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by configure, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.59.  Invocation command line was

I am having the exact same problem building OpenOffice.org 1.1.3. I switched to gcc-config to "i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.3" and was sure to execute
Code:
source /etc/profile
and it's failing at the exact same place. Here is my config file as well:

Code:

This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by configure, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.59.  Invocation command line was

  $ ./configure --with-jdk-home=/opt/blackdown-jdk-1.4.2 --with-system-curl --enable-libart --with-lang=ENUS,ENUS --enable-libsn --without-fonts --with-system-zlib --with-system-freetype

Could be the ebuild file is slightly broken. It appears that the function pkg_setup does a check for which version of gcc is to be used and barfs if it isn't strictly gcc 3.2 or gcc 3.3. Later, in function oo_setup, the ebuild script "does the right thing" and uses gcc-config to set the right personality. SIGH.

I changed the gcc version check in pkg_config to allow gcc 3.4 which lets me get a litlle further but the build dies on a make error (Error 65280). Still researching that one.

Update: According to a few posts on one of the openoffice forums, openoffice doesn't like to build with a 2.6.x kernel. Grrrr.

Check for some gcc-3.4 specific CFLAGS in make.conf...

Did you guys finally find a solution for this one? I still have this error
Code:
checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.

Indeed, good question.
All my other software is compiled with gcc-3.4, so wouldn't it raise a problem when I do an emerge world?
