Hi there,

I currently use a Dell laptop with gentoo installed.
This is a really boring PII 366... so slow..

So I want to change my laptop. And I love much
things on Apple's laptop.

If I buy an ibook, I want to install gentoo on it.

Is it really possible ?
Is there known problems ?
Is it harder than on pc ?

Many thanks....

Well, I've got Gentoo running on my iBook G3 right now - running the install and getting it to work wasn't difficult. Just follow the steps in the Gentoo Handbook for PPC (PowerPC), as they're a little different from the PC version.
The only issues I'm working on right now are getting the built-in touchpad mouse to work (X won't start since I don't have a valid mouse device specified), and a weird problem with the built-in ethernet vs. the AirPort wireless card (Gentoo only uses the wireless card right now, which is fine, but it used to detect both of them). So right now Gentoo runs fine on my iBook, as long as I'm in text mode and using wireless.
If you plan to dual-boot with OSX, which I do, I would run the OSX installer first, and make sure you stop at the beginning and run the "Disk Utility" to create partitions and leave some blank space for Gentoo.
The biggest surprise so far is just how good Gentoo looks, even in text mode, on these gorgeous Apple LCD displays. It's worth it just for that.
