I upgraded xorg-x11 on my main gentoo box. So I rebooted and it gave me a "driver keyboard not found" error, also saying above that that "module_fglrx was unrecognized" I did a reemerge of xorg-x11 and the problem was still there. Can I downgrade to the second most recent version???? Or is there another fix to this problem (reinstalling is not an option).

You can emerge xorg-x11 version 6.7.0, which is what you'll need to use ATI drivers. Also, go into your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change the keyboard entry to kbd.

I guess you have the same problem that happened to me. and don't worry, it is very basic. actualy, it is not even a problem. you just forgot one step.

Did you think of doing
Code:
etc-update

after emerging the new xorg?
(answer -5 to the question asked, or -3 and then "yes" as many time as asked)

If not, do it, and all you problems will most likely vanish. This command just updates the config files. If you have emerged xorg and did not use this command, you have a new X with old config files, and they don't go well together. just give it a try

The newer xorg.conf has "kbd" as the driver instead of "keyboard", as in the following:

Section "InputDevice"

Identifier "Keyboard1"
Driver "kbd"

Temporary fix to get X running is to change your driver in xorg.conf. The fire gl drivers don't seem to work with the new version, so change back to the radeon drivers, if you have them.

Code:

Section "Device"
     Driver "radeon"

have you looked at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?
post it

i just emerged xorg 6.7.0 and ati-gatos and its worse than 6.8
with 6.8 openoffice wont run it crashes everytime and firefox crashed everytime too- but with 6.7 gnome crashes nonstop

im about to go back to xfree86 this instability isnt worth it- im very surprised by gentoo's portage group on this xorg deal- i had no problems at all with xorg in slackware using dropline
im an idiot for going through 24 hours of xorg troubleshooting just for transset
maybe its time for ubuntu
