Hello.
I am after a utility that will allow me to encrypt files, password protect, decrypt etc.
For example if I create a zip or tar file with important documents, I want to be able to encrypt it, and protect it with a password. So if I then email the zip or tar file to another person, they will be able to open it once they enter the password that I have chosen.
I have tried the standard gpg before, but ended up losing a lot of data due to me encrypting files, then having a hard drive crash. The key's are all kept on the system disk so I couldn't open any of the files again.
If anyone knows of any app that would do this for me, or a simple way to do it I would love to know.
Thanks alot.

you can tell gpg to do conventional encryption by using "-c" or "--symetric." this method does not use keys, and can be decoded on any system that has an OpenPGP encryption system |

Great thanks smith.
I'll give it a go. I didn't know that.
Thanks again.
