I'm trying to setup my Evolution so I can access my Exchange email.

If I open a browser and put in http://mailserver.domain.com/exchange I get a login where I can put in "ntdomain\username" and my password and I'm into my email.

Trying to translate that to Evolution in the Receiving Mail tab for my account I set the server type to Exchange.

For the server I put in mailserver.domain.com
For the username I put in "ntdomain\username"
I set the password type to plain text as it was http not https in the url.

In the Receiving Options I put
mailserver.domain.com for the GAL server.
ntdomain\username for the mailbox
exchange for the OWA path.

When I try to access my mail after entering the password I get another password box with
Code:

Could not authenticate to server.

This probably means that your server requires you
to specify the Windows domain name as part of your
username (eg, "DOMAIN\user").

Or you might have just typed your password wrong.

Enter password for William Schwartz - Exchange

I've already got the windows domain in there. what am I missing?

thanks,
Bill

I've read about every thread related to this topic I can find here and I'm still not having any luck. I was able to get the connector setup script to finish once and if I open Evolution I see the account it created and everything looks good but when I try to connect I still get an authentication error.

I'm trying to use Evolution 2.0.2 and Ximian-Connector 2.0.2 to connect to an Exchagne 2003 server.

I know OWA is enabled as I can connect to the site with a browser just fine.

I didn't have sasl and lsap in my USE flags when I originally built everything but after I added those I think I rebuilt everything I needed to rebuild.

Currently I can sometimes get the connector setup to go though and make the account but sometimes it fails with a can't authenticate type error. Evolution has never connected right.

I'm using DOMAIN\username to login with as I do when using a browser.

I don't know where to look next.

here's how mine is setup whschwartz:

my OWA info:

http://owa.server.net/exchange
UN: username.company (.company bit is unique to my setup)
PWD: password

my Exchange connector setup:

Exchange Server: owa.server.net
Windows Username: username.company
Use SSL: Never
Authentication Type: Plaintext Password
[next tab]
Global Catalog server name: [blank]
Mailbox name: username.company
OWA Path: /exchange
Public folder server: owa.server.net

it works for me, and i'm running Exchange 2003 in a hosted (off-premise) environment.

HTH.

Still getting that same error. I do have the DOMAIN in the windows username field.

How exactly did you compile everything?

i'm assuming you've tried straight up without the domain - but if not, do that.

compile was straight up from the ebuilds - USE flags are as follows:

Code:
USE="gnome gtk samba alsa dvd eds hal howl -kde -qt -kerberos"

This one took me forever too. Turns out that in evo 2.0, the formatting is:
Code:
username@domain
.

Not sure exactly why they changed that, and I haven't really found a lot of documentation on it, but it fixed my problems. Everything else is the same as for 1.4.xx.

Changing the username from domain\username to username@domain worked. I can now read my mail, calendar and tasks.

thanks!

Any tips for getting the addressbook to work?

yeah, i'm curious about getting the address book to work as well. my contacts folder's fine, but i can't get the address book containing our system addresses to work.

on a related topic, is there any way to view somebody else's calendar besides creating a new meeting and viewing the scheduling tab? the shared calendar stuff is the biggest problem for me with the connector.

I can see past calendar events that were made using Outlook but whenever my boss sends around a meeting request and I accept, it doesn't appear on my calendar. I have to accept it in Outlook to see it in my calendar in Evolution. I am connecting to a Win2003 Exchange Server. Here are my USE flags used to compile evolution-2.0
Code:
+crypt -debug -doc -ipv6 +kerberos +ldap -mozilla -nntp +pda +spell +ssl

make sure that your accepting it into the correct calendar, and then viewing the correct calendar (meaning Exchange rather than local). i've had problems doing both.

so exchange is the only account you have in evolution? if it is, i'm not sure what the problem would be, as i can accept meetings just fine.

sorry.

Well I did discover a more narrow cause. I can create an appointment (either in Outlook or Evolution 2.0) consisting of just myself, accept it and have it show up in both Outlook and Evolution 2.0. So it might be something with my boss' outlook

Just FYI, username@domain and domain\username are both valid logins for Windows 2000 and above domains. I think it's a kerberos thing.

Well as it turns out, my boss is using Outlook 2003, which maybe the source of my problems.

i don't know that that's the issue as i've had zero problem with one of my colleagues who's 2003 as well - the client doesn't impact the formatting of the Exchange invite, AFAIK.

I have the same problem, I ended up deleting the account and recreating it. I have a feeling it has something to do with the exchange server being reconfigured in some way to invalidate the calender configuration. I'm gonna investigate a bit more.
