Well, another update of fontconfig, and once again my fonts have turned ugly- they're huge, they have poor anti-aliasing, you know the deal. This is getting harder and harder to fix. I don't understand why updating fontconfig always wrecks my fonts.

Anyway, I was thinking that maybe someone could help me out by posting the contents of all of their relevant font files? I've know of the following:

/etc/X11/fs/config
/etc/fonts/fonts.conf
/etc/fonts/local.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

Thanks,
Patrick

The fonts that keep breaking are really getting on my nerves too. Anyway, I spent some time surfing forums and using grep and diff among my machines and here is what I came up with:
First back up your /etc/fonts/font.conf file. Then, delete:
<dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1</dir> <dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype</dir>
from near the top of the config.
That should fix it this time around. :)

Well, I've solved it. My fonts now look decent. The trick was to add the following to my /etc/fonts/local.conf file:

Code:

         <match target="font">
                 <edit name="autohint" mode="assign"><bool>true</bool> </edit>
         </match>
