Computer wont boot from cd...

I have a Compaq Presario 9548 that is gettin close to 10 years old. It's got a P1 200MMX, and 72 megs of RAM, and Windows 95. For the past year or so it has just been collecting dust. So I want to get rid of Windows and put Gentoo on there for somethin to do. The problem I have is the computer won't boot from a CD. Whenever I try to enter BIOS the computer just freezes and it just says....

EZ-BIOS: Initializing...
EZ-BIOS: Hold the CTRL key down for Status Screen or to boot from floppy....
EZ-BIOS- Continuing startup...

The only thing I have been able to do is hold down ctrl and that just gives me the option of booting from a floppy or the C drive.

How can I get Gentoo onto the computer?

in this topic there are some suggestions. smart boot manager worked great for me.
