PostPosted: Thu Oct 21, 2004 8:30 pm    Post subject: Enlightenment Menu Problems Reply with quote

I installed Enlightenment from portage last night and mouse menus don't work.

When I start X, Enlightenment loads OK and displays its desktop, but when I click any of the three mouse buttons, I get a very small popup dialog that's way too small to show any menu options.

There's nothing in my ~/.enlightment directory related to menus except for lists of menu items and their associated actions/commands.

How can I fix this?

try -theme /usr/share/enlightenment/BlueSteel

I think it's a font issue.

Do you run this as a command? How do you install the theme?

ok, I just figured this out.. go to /home/yourusername/.enlightenment and edit the user_theme.cfg file

Code:
nano -w /usr/foo/.enlightenment/user_theme.cfg

change the line to say
Code:
/usr/share/enlightenment/themes/BlueSteel

for some reason you have to change that line instead of commenting it out and adding another one. Maybe enlightenment only handles one line for that file or something? Anyway, when I did that fonts showed up properly. There are other threads that deal with how to add themes.

If this solved your problem please mark the thread [solved]

Go to your initial post and edit it. You can then edit the Subject there to be whatever with [solved] appended to it. Glad it worked!

When I for some reason came across this problem on my laptop my problem was that I had no themes in .enlightenment/themes/ . To fix this I copied the themes folder via scp from my desktop to the laptop and edited the user_theme.cfg to an appropiate theme that was copied over. Hope that helps some one else...

Good info, this bug just bit me. Er, well, I mean I finally decided to do something about it.

The fix of specifying the full path to the BlueSteel theme worked.

However, my preferred theme, BrushedMetal-Tigert, still has broken menus.

I went back and forth between the themes a couple of times to make sure I had not made an error.. The permissions are fine. The theme came with E.

Any thoughts on why BrushedMetal-Tigert isn't working?

Any thoughts as to the root cause of this problem? Why does this install require the full path while others do not?

Thanks!

Have you tried middle clicking -> maintainence and try to regenerate the menus. This worked to fix my menus.

That theme isn't working because a font is missing. Not sure which font is required though.

Would any of you agree to modify the problematic themes files with me and edit the modified files here?
