There seems to be a bug with cdrtools since 2.1_alpha33 und a number of Cyberdrive CDRWs. Mine CW088D and doesn't work either.

The bug is already filled in the gentoo bug tacker:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65372

It is also described in the debian bug tracker:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=265747

cdrtools-2.1 seems to be stable now, 2.1_alpha_28 has been removed from portage and my ability to burn cd is gone since my last update ;(

So what can I do to get my burner working again? Downgrading doesn't seem to be an option, because the version doesn't exist in portage anymore.

Last resort you could download the i386 cdrecord from their website, and replace yours with it.

I had to do the same, with mkisofs, as the latest doesn't work with xcdroast.

I really don't know why the other ebuilds have been removed.

That is what i did. I compiled the 2.0 version by myself. Because of the dependencies i hat to add cdrtools-2.01 to /etc/portage/profile/package.provided.

Why isn't there an any alternative to cdrecord?
