A little tip.. but probably too late..
If you are so damn keen to get that tahoma font and others to work. Please be aware that you have fixed up /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, added the lines of the font pa
ths in /etc/X11/XF86Config.
Then....
1) Make sure you are out of X completely
2) Be root and do /etc/init.d/xfs stop (this stops the font server)
3) Head over to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/
3) Do /usr/X11R6/bin/ttmkfdir -o fonts.dir (not sure if this works!!)
4) Run fc-cache in that directory and do /etc/init.d/xfs start
5) Startx as usual.
I discovered this by accident recently and at work. So I thought it would be useful for people who are going nearly nuts to get one tahoma font just to work!
