I think there are 2.6.10-rc1 changes in this bk-update. in new kernel_src/include/linux/pci.h pci_restore/save_state function is smaller(args) ,but in 2.6.9 has 2 args.
maybe looking at older init.c file and this function calling places and adding absent args to the new will help.

Being on a Shuttle SN41G2 with an 2500+ I got the following with hdparm:
Code: |
hdparm -tT /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
Timing cached reads: 1376 MB in 2.00 seconds = 686.73 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 174 MB in 3.02 seconds = 57.55 MB/sec
|
Code: |
/boot --> ext3
/ --> reiserfs
/usr --> reiser4
|
this seems quite speedy, I was really satisfied with 2.6.9-rc1-nitro4, was fast and stable. The other nitro's where less stable, got seg-faults.
It seems this 2.6.9-nitro1 is 100% quality. Well let's see in a few days
bye,

Same problem here, i found a link about pci_restore_state
but i wasn't able to correct the problem (my coding knowledge are a lttle bit of Pascal 6 years about so ...). So i just comment out the line 804 of sound/core/init.c, it complies ok but didn't solves my sound problems with via82xx |

Just make a little tryout you who have via onboard sound.
If you have loopback cable for tv-card try to pull it out and check if
the noise is here again. I think is a problem with the line-in input,
I can be wrong (but when my card is on TV I hear no more noises). |

hugh, I forgot to point... I found the All-in-one v4l patch2.6.9-rc4 was not applied to the kernel....... (just cause it was missing my tv card,
Empire_PCI_TV_Radio_LE , for wich I wrote the settings)
for this I repatched with the original gz file. |

this kernel-sources kicks ass
on my notebook all stuff works fine
but if somebody get a problem with vesafb-tng on radeon mobility 9600
on 1400x1050 resolution
this option get some problems with vesafb-tng on my radeon mobility
video=vesafb:ywrap,pmipal,1400x1050@60
at the point of fbcon initialisation the screen stay black with the last kernel output
and freez, system starts normal but console screen cannot be used.
try vbetest to get the correct modnumber for your boot options
Code: | VBE Version 2.0
ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600
...
[320] 1400x1050 (256 color palette)
[321] 1400x1050 (5:5:5)
[322] 1400x1050 (5:6:5)
[323] 1400x1050 (8:8:8)
[324] 1400x1050 (8:8:8)
...
|
this works for me

I'm using this nitro now and it works great. Good job done... sepe, thanks a lot.
PS: My video config line is: ideo=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,1280x1024-32@85
But i think that it does not switch the refresh rate... any hints? _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

It's now compileing fine, thx every one - just reboot and see how it works:
After patching just change line 804 in "sound/core/init.c":
Code: |
// change this:
pci_restore_state(dev)
// to:
pci_restore_state(dev, dev->saved_config_space);
|
It stils don't sound good

Hello,
I seem to have stability issues with this kernel My system is a P4 SMP HT and the system hangs under some form of medium load (nothing major, e.g. emerging some software). I will post my .config if anyone is willing to help. The "only" thing I could see is that I had to change PCI Access to "Direct" instead of "Bios" (or "Any") because otherwise my ps2 mouse and keyboard would not work with acpi=on.
Could anyoen with a similar system possibly post their .config ????
Thanks,
Emmanuel |

Brilliant !!! Thanks a lot. When you compile a kernel for your machine what are your typical "yes yes" options and "no no" options??? |

i had to disable all of the API sequencer stuff in order to get it to compile. Also, my USB 2.0 doesn't work. I had to lower it to USB 1.1 in order for the kernel to find my keyboard and mouse (i didn't have this problem in Love-mm).
Otherwise, this kernel feels very responsive and fast. Thanx |

Captive is not a kernel patch for an ntfs driver, it is a hack to emulate the actual windows driver and interface it with the kernel through LUFS.
The first config of nitro I compiled was freezing during high cpu usage but this new config seems to be stable, thanks! I'm really enjoying reiser4 and gensplash |

Hello guys, first I want to state that this is my first nitro kernel, so maybe I'm not doing something right thus resulting the problems I have. I've installed it following this method. So far it's really stable and fast, but I have 2 issues I can't resolve. The first thing is, that the nvidia module (/lib/modules/2.6.9-nitro1/video/nvidia.ko) does not autoload. Tried reemerging several times, but no luck. Manual loading still works though through insmod. I have "nvidia" in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6, so that's not a problem, also after every reemerge of the driver i run modules-update. This technique worked with every kernel I've used before.
The second issue I have is with hdparm. Although I've added it to boot runlevel (rc-update add hdparm boot), and configured it in /etc/conf.d/hdparm with Code: | hda_args="-d1 -X69 -u1 -m16 -c3"
cdrom0_args="-d1" | , it runs after the boot process mounts the partitions, generating errors of "operation not permitted" type.
Both nvidia loading and hdparm setting work manually.
Can anyone help with that? _________________ Veritas, Aequitas |

For your hdparm try adding it to default rather than boot , it may be getting called before some service it needs is running.
I have nvidia gx card but never had to do it the way you do.
after making a new kernel (unless it's a rebuild with minor mods) you will need to rebuild the nvidia-kernel module (misleading name because it is NOT a kernel at all) . I have an alias to do it.
Code: | alias emnv='emerge nvidia-kernel && emerge nvidia-glx'
|
You may also need to do
Code: | opengl-update xorg
or
opengl-update nvidia
|
not sure which of those you will need, I'm pretty sure I did the xorg one.
HTH.

I'm getting quite the same problem as dpst with the nvidia module.
Got that first when updated to 2.6.9 gentoo-dev-sources, and fixed modifying that packages.mask file.
Maybe that's something i'm forgetting to compile on kernel? Dunno, the stack size, MTRR and stuff seems fine. It's my first experience with nitro, seems nicely fast by the way, and the nvidia it's the only problem i've found.
Thanks. |

If it helps reassure you , this is my second nitro with nvidia gx card and I never even had to change a thing:
Code: |
-bash-3.00#ls /lib/modules/2.6.9-nitro1/video/nvidia.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.9-nitro1/video/nvidia.ko
-bash-3.00#lsmod
Module Size Used by
nvidia 4819284 12
uhci_hcd 32908 0
8139cp 19968 0
tdfxfb 10696 0
ehci_hcd 43268 0
via_agp 9472 1
agpgart 34408 2 via_agp
|
And I have nothing in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
Maybe you should look at dmesg and see if there are any relevant errors.

I have tried all that. The problem with hdparm is, that it ALWAYS runs at default. I want it to run at boot. It gives me the following errors: Code: | * Running hdparm on /dev/hda...
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
* Running hdparm on /dev/cdroms/cdrom0...
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted | Reemerging nvidia didn't help, I've always done it the way you described, and never had any problems. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the 2.6.9 nitros, because both nitro1 and nitro2 are giving me the same errors.
The most weird thing is, that manually (after login) both work. _________________ Veritas, Aequitas |

There#s probably some other element at play here as well I have no issues with any nitro and nvidia . Can you boot to a different kernel where it works?

I pasted what errors hdparm gives me. And, I can boot to 2.6.8.1-nitro6 without any problems, so I guess I'll stick with it for a while _________________ Veritas, Aequitas |
