Hi,
I re-compiled my kernel. Did 'make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install'. After that I copied /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/linux/bzImage to /boot and /usr/src/linux/System.map to boot.
Still when booting I see this message in messages:
'Inspected /boot/System.map
Cannot find map file
No Module Symbols loaded'
No how can that be, the system.map is there?!
second, after emerging mozilla1.1 I found out my kernel was modified in some way cause when trying to boot lilo, it didn't work. doing a lilo again and a 'dd if=/dev/.....' (cause I use Win XP bootloader) it worked again. Is it possible emerge actions alter the kernel??

Short answer: No. emerge can't alter the kernel image, what some package could have done (not mozilla I guess) is change the /lib/modules/..../modules.dep file by issueing the depmod -a / update-modules command.
Btw. I'm using grub.
second, looks like some sort of lilo problem rather then a kernel / emerge problem,

I haven't had to move a system.map since the first 2.4 kernels... buuuut
curious if you had /boot mounted ? cause it doesn't mount by default _________________ Kororaa install method - have Gentoo up and running quickly and easily, fully automated with an installer! |

well, maybe that was the reason my old kernel was not booting proparly. I don't know if it was Mozilla but it happened after emerging Mozilla, a lot more needed to be installed because of Mozilla so maybe one of the extra needed packages was the problem. _________________ http://www.linuxlamers.org |
