Posted: Sun Oct 31, 2004 1:23 pm Post subject: Kernel 2.6.9, xorg-x11, nvidia and missing GL libraries?!?! |
|
|
So I have been sort of stuck on this problem recently of getting my NVidia graphics cards working with xorg-x11 under the new gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9-r1...
First it did not load the kernel module, giving an undefined __VM_ALLOC_RESERVE symbol
That was fixed with adding "EXPORT_SYMBOL(__VMALLOC_RESERVE);" into /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/mm/init.c
So now it worked fine, but now I cannot compile any new GL programs...
When it does configure:
Checking for GL Libraries... no
I currently have the following:
-nvidia-kernel/nvidia-glx 1.0.5336
-xorg-x11 6.8.0-r1
This is what I have tried to fix the problem, but the problem persists:
- reemerging xorg-x11, nvidia-kernel until I go blue in the face...
- adding NPTL support into glibc (i.e. USE="nptl" emerge glibc)
I am going to try the newest version of nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r2 and see how that turns out.
Any help would be appreciated... _________________ Current open source project: justCheckers, a cross-platform checkers suite. |

I am also having this problem and it's very annoying. I can't figure out what is going wrong, do I have to move to an older kernel to get everything working? If anyone has a clue how to fix this please help |

Well I tried the latest ~x86 version of the nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx...
The good news the EXPORT hack is no longer required but...
Now ALL my GL applications seg. fault on me, and attempts to recompile yield, columns of theses:
libGL.so: undefined symbol __nv(random 4 digit number)gl
Well, it will keep away from gaming for a while... Oh well, I'll take another look through the forums and see what I come up with. _________________ Current open source project: justCheckers, a cross-platform checkers suite. |

Try using the ~x86 version of nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx...
Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx | see if that helps. Note that the kernel module depends on the version you are running right NOW. So if you do recompile the kernel then you should reboot and start up in that kernel.[/code] _________________ Current open source project: justCheckers, a cross-platform checkers suite. |

rj I think you should start from scratch. I've read your other thread and it helped me ( at least I think so; I'm emerging kde as I write ) I'd say your set-up may be in a total mess I've restarted myself because of problems before and it takes a lot less time then you might imagine to get back up to scratch. The hints given in your thread fixed my problem ( xstart brings up the fwm with the nvidia logo ) so I'd say your set-up may just be totally beyond help. unmerge everything and if that still fails then re-bootstrap |

Sorry, that I couldn't help...
Apparently my problem happens more or less randomly, if the opengl doesn't work I just opengl-update nvidia...
Weird... and I really don't have time to figure out why it was happening. _________________ Current open source project: justCheckers, a cross-platform checkers suite. |
