Hello,
Just borrowed a Celeron-M 1400MHz laptop with 512MB ram and noticed it completely crushes my ordinary dual AMD MPX machine in compilespeeds.
I timed kdetoys on the dual amd and the celeron-m, and the celeron-m finishes in about 3m30s while the dual amd takes a hefty 5m40s++
Just to see if the cflags and/or USE flags had any impact, I tried compiling an ordinary GNU package by hand and I still see this huge gap in performance. Any suggestions whats going on? I know the dual AMD MPX is hampered by a low memory bandwidth, but is it really is it really *this* bad? It outperforms the celeron-m 3 to 1 in bogoMIPS btw, so this came as a surprise to me...[/code]

| Do both systems have DMA enabled for the hard drive(s)? Are you using the -j option on the SMP machine? |
