|

Hello,
Just borrowed a Celeron-M 1400MHz laptop with 512MB ram and noticed it completely crushes my ordinary dual AMD MPX machine in compilespeeds.
I timed kdetoys on the dual amd and the celeron-m, and the celeron-m finishes in about 3m30s while the dual amd takes a hefty 5m40s++
Just to see if the cflags and/or USE flags had any impact, I tried compiling an ordinary GNU package by hand and I still see this huge gap in performance. Any suggestions whats going on? I know the dual AMD MPX is hampered by a low memory bandwidth, but is it really is it really *this* bad? It outperforms the celeron-m 3 to 1 in bogoMIPS btw, so this came as a surprise to me...[/code] _________________ I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, I'm saying why don't we take the warning labels off of everything, and let the problem take care of itself? |

Just wondering, are you using the same version of gcc on both machines? |

Do both systems have DMA enabled for the hard drive(s)? Are you using the -j option on the SMP machine? |
