ciaoooo,
dopo vari tentativi chiedo i vostro aiuto, ecco cosa mi succede all'avvio:

Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(,0) |
per capire meglio cosa sto facendo, sto installando la mia macchina e il filesystem che voglio utilizzare è reiser4. il kernel che utilizzo al momento è 2.6.9-nitro1 (che ha già la patch per reiser4).
il disco rigido sul quale installo linux è un S-ATA (identificato come sdb).
ecco anche grub.conf:

kernel /kernel-2.6.9-nitro1 root=/dev/sdb3 video=vesafb;ywrap,mtrr vga=0x31A |

a prima vista sembra che non hai compilato reiser4 nel kernel (non deve essere compilato come modulo se non usi initrd)

penso anche io che il problema sia quello ma come faccio a verificare se mi manca il supporto reiser4 nel mio kernel? mi spiego meglio, utilizzo nitro1 che ha implementato la patch per reiser4 e nella configurazione del mio kernel ho:

non ho altri posti dove attivare un supporto resier, giusto? |

cosi' attivi reiserfs 3
controlla in prima pagina:
Code maturity level options --->
e seleziona
Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers
a quel punto sotto i FS dovresti vedere reiser4.
Attenzione perche' non e' cosi' testato...
(anche se qui qualcuno ti dira' che e' stabilissimo  )

anche io uso 2.6.9-nitro1 e sinceramente non ho notato nel menu i moduli riguardanti reiser4... forse uscirà con le nitro2? vedremo

ora non ricordo...
io avevo i nitro (rimossi in 5 minuti)
e avevano la patch per reiser4..
non ricordo la versione.
Al momento uso gli mm (mi servivano per fare qc test su reiser4)

oki, allora anche se sul sito http://www.sepi.be/nitro.php indica la presenza della patch non la vedo, avevo già abilitato il supporto di driver e infatti reisser4 non c'è, quindi vedo solo i 3
provo con un altro kernel e vedo cosa succede (per il momento ho provato love e nitro) |

quindi reiser4 visto che è stato rilasciato ufficialmente è da utilizzare oppure è meglio lasciarlo maturare ancora un po?

scusate la domanda ma ho scaricato mm-sources ma non vedo ancora nessun supporto reiser4, ma se guardo all'interno della cartella fs trovo reiser4 oltre a reiserfs, quindi c'è.
ho pure attivato il supporto per i driver non "completi".
nessuna idea, sono io che sto toppando alla grande? |

Come ha detto xchris il consiglio è non utilizzarli
Poi se ami il rischio........................non utilizzarli nemmeno e vai a fare paracadutismo

(stacks a 4KB in kernel hacking). io l'ho sempre vista attiva e mai l'ho toccata. |

4kb stack vuol dire che viene allocato solo un frame per lo stack da 4kb per le syscall/interrupt...
mi pare che nvidia abbia risolto i suoi problemi.
ovviamente se dico minchiate ditemelo.
