I had the EXACT same thing happen to me this morning, my system was happily (slowly) compiling KDE, and then WHAM!, same error, exactly. Well, not exactly, my error showed Line -7382...

What the heck's up with this? Does this mean something is broke on the server side, to have two people have exactly the same problem this morning already? Pardon my lack of knowledge on how Portage actually works, still just trying to get an install up and running! 8O

UPDATE:
Dunno if it'll help, but "emerge -V" gives:
Portage 2.0.44 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2, glibc-2.2.5-r7)

Hmmmm... it LOOKS like the same problem I had yesterday with KDE 3.1_rc3 ....

Check /usr/include/arts directory. If it is, indeed, the same problem, you'll need to copy all the files in that directory to /usr/kde/3/include/arts and then emerge kde. (If you are trying to compile KDE 3.1, you'll want to copy them to /usr/kde/3.1/include/arts)

Again, that is IF it is the same problem... and it looks to me like it is.

Good Luck and let us know if that works.

Dang. It was worth a try though. It might be useful to try running emerge kdeaddons like this
code wrote:
emerge kdeaddons 2>&1 | tee kdeaddons.log
and then take a look at kdeaddons.log and see if you can find anything there about what may be missing.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful to you. :(

I did an emerge --pretend kde after getting the error, and started installing everything AFTER kdeaddons by hand (via emerge, though). Everything else is compiling nicely.

This machine is at work, so I'll try to install kdeaddons last tomorrow, see if that helps. BTW, I did an emerge -update kde for kicks, and oddly, portage installed an updated automake... but it didn't fix anything... :)

I too have experienced this error today.
Also for some reason, compiles seem to take much longer than they did a couple weeks ago. Before, emerge kde took about 20 hours, this time, it took about 26 hours just to get to kdeaddons and there are still about 30 dependencies to go.

I don't know if this is related, but when building kde-base/arts-1.0.4, I got several "permission denied" errors about creating directories in /root and at the very end (after the files were installed, on the very last line) I got the following error:
Code:

* error scanning /usr/kde/3/share/config

The 3.0.4 ebuilds seem don't seem to have changed since the last time they worked. Is another to blame? (Of course  )

It's not a bug with portage. It's a problem with the Makefile for kdeaddons, I've been having the same problem and have been hoping that someone will update kdeaddons soon, but it might help to post this on the buglist.

trying to build around it, hopefully package will get fixed soon., but notice that kde 3.1 final is in portage, just masked waiting for tarballs to become readily available.

maybee i should just go with an unmask of 3.1 and see if that compiles fully

This should fix the compile for most people, if you really need kdeaddons..

ln -sf /usr/lib/libnoatun.so /usr/kde/*/lib/libnoatun.so

cp -a /usr/include/arts/* to /usr/kde/*/include/arts/

rmdir /usr/include/arts

ln -sf /usr/kde/*/include/arts /usr/include/arts

Where * is the version of KDE you are using (for me it was 3.. /usr/kde/3/include/arts).

Cheers,

Ryan

I had the same problem as the individuals above and your fix worked great for me.

Ok, I've started this thread and I'm going to close it also :-)
Now I'm going to give it a try.
Thanks
