ALrighty... I've got an Acer 6x4x6 CD-RW. cdr is in my USE variable, and I emerged k3b. k3b sees the burner, and it burns a good bit (well, 20-70MB), then fails. It exits on error code 254.
I looked some stuff up on Google, and it seemed like a good idea to see if xcdroast worked. Well, it doesn't. It doesn't burn anything. So I tried enabling scsi-emulation in the kernel, and now k3b doesn't burn anything at all, either.
Something I'm not configuring right, or not turning on in the kernel? Or is it the burner? I've always had little problems with it here and there (it used to be USB, but I took the casing off and mounting it in ide... worked fine in Windows) _________________ Obsidian |

Are you running it as root?
As of kernel 2.6.8 you need to be root to burn CDs for security reasons I guess. |

I would suggest to use kernel 2.6.7 for cd burning. In 2.6.8 there are memory leaks, problems with suid, problems with audio cds and who knows what else more. 2.6.8 is the first kernel version since cdrtools are not patched with the mandrake patch any more, that made unsuable cds for me.

I noticed that too...when I tried burning a CD with 2.6.8.1 my ram filled up (additional 700mb) and i started swapping (first time ever). With a gig of ram, this shouldn't happen. I hope it's fixed in 2.6.9, since thats what I'm currently using. |
