I will install Gentoo on my System. He has a Athlon 3000+ 64bit cpu, an is a laptop from Acer (Aspire 1520). When i boot from the 64bit livecd i can't use the keyboard from the notebook. Have you a idea who is the problem?

Thanks Daim

The keyboard is not working, so typing 'lsmod' is a rather difficult task for him :-)

Sorry wasn't thinking that was retarded wasn't it, well he is typing from somewhere, if the laptop keyboard isn't recognised he could try the keyboard he is typing on, assuming it is ps2 or usb.

Looks like I have exaclty the same problem right now! Considering the fact that this thread is about two months old, has the problem been solved?

I'd appreciate any help, because I really, really don't want Windows to run my new laptop!

If you have another keyboard you can plug in (ps/2 or usb) you could try that, or if not you could use knoppix to install gentoo (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/altinstall.xml)

i have run into systems where a defective PS/2 mouse will allow a PS/2 keyboard to work during the POST & boot cycle, but the keyboard immediately becomes disabled once gentoo is loaded. just another thing to think about.
