|
|
The problem was due to lack of bootsplash support, actually deprecated.
Hello, i've set up framebuffer with a silent splash a long time ago. Some days ago it stopped working and i don't know why. The splash image is still working but the message "Press f2 for verbose mode", "Reboting..." doesn't shjow anymore, the same happened with the progress bar.
here is my grub conf:
Code: |
default 0
timeout 30
fallback 1
splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title=GNU/Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda2 video=ywrap,mtrr,vesa:1024x768@65 vga=0x317 spl$
initrd=/boot/initrd
|
Code: |
ls -al /etc/bootsplash
total 468
drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 4096 sep 6 19:31 .
drwxr-xr-x 59 root root 4096 oct 25 12:03 ..
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root root 25 may 9 16:53 default -> /etc/bootsplash/tuxntosh/
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 may 3 20:39 tuxntosh
|
/etc/conf.d/bootsplash have always been these way. By no setting any theme it uses the default one.
Code: |
cat /etc/conf.d/bootsplash |grep -v '#'
BOOTSPLASH_TTYS="0 1 2 3 4
PROGRESS_BOOT_MESSAGE="Arrancando GNU/Gentoo Linux..."
PROGRESS_SHUTDOWN_MESSAGE="Cerrando el sistema..."
PROGRESS_REBOOT_MESSAGE="Reiniciando el sistema..."
|
I'm gentoo-sources and bootsplash-0.6.1-r4
I have emerged bootsplash and i also have bootsplash at my default runlevel. I'ts very strange because it stopped working sudenly and the splash is still showing but without the progress bar and the messages. The progress bar i used to see was like the livecd one. Maybe i delete the progress bar image? or something similar? i don't think because it's strange that both things stopped working at same time, boot messages and progress bar :'(
Thanks in advanced _________________ Si el tonto te alaba laméntalo, si el listo te censura piénsalo.

I'm seeing a few threads like this but have no found a solution yet I'm just wondering if anybody's figured anything out yet.

By the way, as an update just in case anybody is still using bootsplash: even though the newer baselayouts seem to have broken bootsplash, it's not the case. Cd over to /usr/portage/media-gfx/bootsplash and emerge bootsplash-0.6.1-r7.ebuild. The latest one installed on your machine is probably 0.6.1-r4. Somebody else on the mailing lists fixed the same problem using this method and it worked for me as well. I'll eventually switch over to gensplash, but for those like me who are still using bootsplash for now, this will fix it Smile

Cool, thanks man. seems that (in my oldish portage tree at least) the stable baselayout breaks the stable bootsplash 'media-gfx/bootsplash' >> /etc/portage/package.keywords fixed it for me. (see, I do know how to use portage
Cheers.
