After 6 months uptime my gentoo mail/web server (an old dell poweredge 2*200 pentium pro, etc etc) went offline - smthg with scsi, after reinitialising scsi logical drives in bios the system doesn't start. I get grub boot screen and caqn even start the system till i get kernel panic message saying it cannot mount root device which i think is correct /dev/sda3. ok, heck the problem let's try to boot from floppy or cd.
The next problem arises that i cannot boot nor from floppy or cd either. tried several floppies and cd's but nothing..
Any ideas?
EDIT:
after plugging the drives in another comp they are still working so there must be problems with server hardware..

I believe the results this action could be the destruction of the previously existing partitions. _________________ The true guru is a teacher.

If you disk didn't boot and you could boot from a disk that could help, but not beeing able to boot at all.. I think the the problem is with the BIOS, if you hve someone with an epron programer you could flash the bios with you board version and try again.
