I don't know quite how to describe it, but the sounds on my gentoo box seem more "harsh" than they did on other OS'es (incl. winXP). It seems like it's overdriving the sound way too much. I have checked the KMix settings, and everything is nearly at the lowest possible setting, but it still sounds quite loud.

And also, i don't seem to have rear speaker support right now. How can I set that up? The only thing that I noticed that did anything is the OGain slider, but that just makes the rear speakers sound all warbly.
