|

I already run
When i compiled the kde
It shows me those packages with 3.3.0 version but not 3.3.1. I already check the /usr/portage/kde-base and i found that there are packages with 3.3.1.
What should i do to emerge the kde with 3.3.1 ? |

kde 3.3.1 is masked. You need to unmask it in order to emerge it. You could just wait until it is stable. |

You really should read the Gentoo Documentation before asking questions like these. |

You can change your /etc/portage/package.keywords. Like the guy before said, check out the documentation and read the forums. Plenty of people have asked this question before. I would first check the documentation and then search the forums. If you still can not find it, get back to me and I'll write out how to do it. |

Given the ever-growing popularity of Gentoo, questions like these will always be asked in these forums. Telling people to simply read the documentation does not help them get acclimated any quicker. The documentation for gentoo is by far the best of _any_ distro but also very large. If your answer to a question is simply the typical "read the docs" answer than either dont post, or post the link to the specific doc(s) that answers the question. Finding a simple answer in them can be a very daunting task especially to linux newbies, let alone linux veterans from package based distros. The search functionality on the gentoo site and especially on these forums is _very_ poor and thus we will continue to see a lot of dups and easy questions until they are "upgraded".
I really hope the users of this distribution continue to serve and promote the project and dont turn it into debian. Yes, he/she should read the docs, but dont fault them for not understanding or missing something if they already did.

Like others said:
tells you everything you want to know.
All you need to do is put the following in your /etc/portage/package.keywords
Code: |
kde-base/kde ~x86
kde-base/arts ~x86
kde-base/kdelibs ~x86
kde-base/kdebase ~x86
kde-base/kdeaddons ~x86
kde-base/kdeadmin ~x86
kde-base/kdeartwork ~x86
kde-base/kdeedu ~x86
kde-base/kdegames ~x86
kde-base/kdegraphics ~x86
kde-base/kdemultimedia ~x86
kde-base/kdenetwork ~x86
kde-base/kdepim ~x86
kde-base/kdetoys ~x86
kde-base/kdeutils ~x86
kde-base/kdeaccessibility ~x86
kde-base/kdewebdev ~x86

In my case it complains about a blocked package (two different versions of gpgme). You may have to sort out such problems (post here).

[edit: forgot to add kde itself] |
