I was following the printing guide. I already had USB Printing Support enabled in make menuconfig when i first installed, but when I do a "find /lib/modules/<kernel version>/ -type f -iname '*.o' -or -iname '*.ko'" there is no usbcore and no usblp (I'm using 2.6.9-gentoo-r1). How do I get these loaded so I can print?

edit: Also I tried modprobing them but they were not found.

Check If everything is compile in the kernel about USB support

I do have a problem too...

bash-2.05b# ptal-init setup

Stopping the HP OfficeJet Linux driver.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This program manages devices controlled by the HP OfficeJet Linux
driver (hpoj). It attempts to probe your computer for local parallel-
and USB-connected devices, and allows you to specify network addresses
for remote JetDirect-connected devices.

If you experience any difficulties in detecting your device(s), then
refer to the hpoj documentation for troubleshooting information.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Currently defined device names ([*]=default):
(none)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Probe for parallel-connected devices ([y]/n)? n

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Probe for USB-connected devices ([y]/n)? y

*** Note: hpoj appears not to have been compiled for libusb support.
*** This may or may not be a problem, depending on which model you have.
*** See http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/suplist.shtml for more information.

*** Warning: Couldn't load kernel module "usblp"!

And usblp is hard compile I don't like to much module...

So If somebody know the name of the kernel option I will put It as a module

I'm thinking about usb printer, i am right ?

Make sure you've emerged libusb. Of course, hpoj depends on it, so emerging hpoj should have taken care of it, however when I tried it, hpoj would only emerge correctly after downgrading libusb to version 0.1.7-r1. Also, when emerging hpoj make sure the USE-flag "usb" is present.
