|
|
Hello,
Doom3 is a pretty heavy game and will force me to upgrade some components ASAP. I have an Athlon XP +3000, 512Mb of shoddy RAM, a GeForce4-MX and performance is awful.
I'm creating this thread so that people can share ways they have optimized their Doom3 to cram out extra performance. From what I have experienced, even people on high-end systems might benefit from some advice.
What tweaks have you done to your system/Doom3 to get those extra frames per second?

Get more vram. If it's anything like my gf4mx, its got hardly any at all.
Failing that, try closing X, and starting doom3 in its own X session: Code: | $ xinit /path/to/doom3 | (from the console). _________________ Registered Linux User #363420 |

Get a new vid card, stat!
The GF4 is by far the worst thing you have there. Get a 6800GT if you can afford it and if you have any money left over, upgrade to 1Gb Ram. |

I repleaced libstdc++.so.5 and libgcc_s.so.1 from the root of the doom dir with one that have been compiled on my computer. This seems to of given me a few frames per secound more.
Apart from that i'm working on better ways to speed this game up...
good luck =) _________________ All Servers :: Offline [no connection]

Linux-gamers have a pretty good tweaking guide, don't know if you've seen it:
http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=54
I tried some of the things mentioned and my fps went from about 30 to about 40 (Ti 4200 card running in 800x600 medium setting, Athlon XP 2100 and one gig RAM). _________________ I will get it. Eventually. |

I don't, that's why I created this thread .
Hardware is very expensive in Brazil.
By the way, what do you think of PixelView's GeForce FX 5200? Is it good enough for Doom3? It is in my "affordable" range (~$130). _________________ Hello. |
