Hey,
I'm on a linksys router with DSL connection provided by quest.
When I try to do the auto detecting my network in the install, it doesn't find it, when I ping a site, it comes back cannot find this host.

I'm honestly not sure what step would be appropriate for me to take next.
I tried adsl-setup but I honestly wasn't positive what my DNS server was so I aborted the install.
Suggestions please?
I'd like for it to be able to find it before I save any changes to my network, I can't go long without the internet, I think I'd go insane. :)

Thanks

Did you load the driver module for your network card? Without the network device going you will have a hard time accessing anything on the Internet.

I've had a few problems in the past. Some with gentoo 1.4 rc's .
First check the mdoules like hw-tph said. cat /proc/modules for ex.
If it's not loaded modprobe module-name. You may chack again if the module was loaded. You cah setup everything if the module was properly loaded.
I had a small issue the last I installed my gateway. I have 2 network cards, and dhcpd didn't work on any, I had to rmmod and remove the module, then pick of of the cards modules and load it and try dhcpd on that card, after that it worked.

And just incase you are not sure how to find what module to use, try:
Code:
lspci | grep Ethernet
Then from there do a search on google or in the forums to find out what module is associated with your chipset.

When you do an ifconfig does it give you an eth0 or just the loopback setting? If you check this it will tell you whether the module for your NIC was loaded. That's gotta happen first.

Those are the results I get when I'm still in ubuntu, so if it isn't loading it when installing gentoo, what would I type to tell it to load my SiS900 PCI?

I think it is:
Code:
modprobe sis900
