salve gente!
ho questo problema che si riscontra con il 90% dei server di posta che uso
all'atto di spedire una mail kmail mi risponde in malomodo così:

Your SMTP server does not support authentication.
The server responded: "unimplemented (#5.5.1)"
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.

ho provato a testare i protocolli di auth supportati dal server e ma mi si "disattivano" tutti (nel senso che diventano tutti grigio chiaro)
non è che per spedire mail devo avere un server sulla mia macchina che poi le rigira?
tengo a precisare che non mi serve null'altro che un client che scarichi la posta, me la faccia leggere e mi permetta di rispondere.
il tutto molto semplice dato che son contornato da veri lUsers

Normalmente i server mail dei provider non hanno bisogno dell'autenticazione perché "vedono" che sei un loro utente....

beh non tutti i server di posta sono hostati da un isp
cmq...possibile soluzione? |

Se usi il server del tuo isp disattiva l'autenticazione

e ma non uso il server del mio isp 
uso il server dell'host del sito web che "gestisco"
cmq ho tolto l'autenticazione e funziona.
ora però voglio sapere perchè!!!!!!!
scusa la niubbaggine, ma...se io non gli dico chi sono come fa a sapere che casella usare???
se non gli mando user e pass non mi dovrebbe respingere???
ma ma ma ma ma ma.....non ho capito un chez

E in effetti nulla ti impedisce di inviare email come president@whitehouse.gov... Nonostante sia una possibilità prevista è prassi comune non richiedere l'autenticazione nei confronti del server SMTP.
Se hai bisogno di uno strumento che garantisca l'autenticazione del mittente è meglio ricorrere ai sistemi di firma digitale.

La casella da usare é indicata dal tuo programma negli header della mail stessa ed é indipendente dal server che usi.
