i'm in a domain at school (vmware) and i want to enter it using linux
i'm trying right now from the livecd, how do i do it?
this is all the information i gather about this network. and all that i usually(windows) need to enter the school network.
-ip (range for my class) 10.4.6.2 - 254
i use 200 cause it isn't being used
-subnet mask 255.0.0.0 class a
-Default Gateway, none , or i haven't found it, doesn't show in windows properties.
-DNS servers 10.0.0.11 and 10.0.0.12
-domainname, honnet.edu
my resolv.conf has the correct information on it
Code: |
nameserver 10.0.0.11
nameserver 10.0.0.12
search honnet.edu
|
i added this to conf.d/net
Code: |
iface_eth0="10.4.6.200 broadcast 10.255.255.255 netmask 255.0.0.0"
|
my route seems correct.
Code: |
Destination Gateway Genmask Iface
10.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 eth0
|
i even set domainname to honnet.edu
and /etc/init.d/domainname start
dhcpcd gives me something weird, 10.100.201.57
so i manually set my ip using ifconfig.
usually (windows) for me to enter the network using my username and pw. i use a valid ip, then open a browser, and i'm prompted to enter my school username and pw, then i can access the outside world.
how do i do this in linux? |

What does ipconfig/all show on the Windows box? That should give you your default gateway. Without that, you probably can't get to the outside world no matter what you do. |

ok i added route add default gw 10.0.0.20
and here is my new routing table
Destination gateway genmask flags Iface
10.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U eth0
loopback host.honnet.edu 255.0.0.0 UG lo
default hocisa.honnet.edu 0.0.0.0 UG eth0
i don't know if this is correct...
i also did
export http_proxy="http://john:f00b_r@hocisa.honnet.edu:8080"
hmmm.. still can't access outside network, i only need to for emerging apache mysql php_mod and some other stuff to set up my in-school webserver.
and its always nice to have access to the internet.
so how do i log on? |

student.
but i can log on to the domain with windows, are you saying its impossible for linux to log on to a win2k domain?
i know they don't block my computer cause of the OS, otherwise i wouldn't be able to ping other computers like i can now, right?
and there are linux classes, they use red hat / gnome.
is that what i need to access the outside world via linux? red hat? |

hmm yeh the proxy server might require authorization from certain ip ranges so students cant bypass the filter . tried the proxy on port 3128? or find out what the ip/port of the proxy is for the redhat machines |

wouldn't the proxy port be 8080?
as in
hocisa.honnet.edu:8080
and i know that the usable ips are AT LEAST the ones being used in class
1-40
i don't know why they do it that way.
but the host names are 406-14 for room 406 computer 14
and the ip for this computer is 10.4.6.14
i try 10.4.6.200 so i won't step on anyones shoes by using a used ip, cause there aren't 200 computers in a class, but you might be right, so i tried a known ip (like the one next to me, that is OFF)
and i can still ping any computer in this building, but i can't
ping www.yahoo.com
or 63.250.206.138 |
