Have you tried booting 2.6 kernel?
Code:
boot: smp

Gentoo LiveCD comes with Linux kernels versions 2.4 and 2.6. To load 2.4 kernel you type 'gentoo' or nothing and to load 2.6 kernel you type 'smp'.

2.6 kernel is newer and may have better support for your hardware. Your choice of kernel during installation doesn't play any role on the result, so try it out. Hopefully it will get your nic working.

Ah, ok. Right, if you've got the module loaded you can use the following command from the livecd to set up your network - net-setup eth0. So far you haven't got to the stage bit...

hello all. i've got a simliar siduation. i have two network cards. neither one works. so ill break this into 2 segments. i don't care which one works as long as one does.

on-board lan
i have an amd 64 with a k8v delux asus mother borad it has acoording to asus webste Marvell 88E8001 GbLAN. windows calls it 3Com gigabit LOM(3C940). i don't know which module to load. i ran through most of them with no luck. if anyone knows what module to use let me know.

wireless.
i also have a d-link airplus DWL-G520 wireless card (hardware version b). i looked up the prism54 module and it state that my card was supported. so i booted the live cd and ran modprobe prism54(under both gentoo and smp) then i ran ifconfig and it only came up with lo.

should i try booting with noapci? ir some other options?
thanks for any help you guys can be
