This is not funny.
I just can't upgrade to a newer kernel like >gentoo-sources-r8 or the acpi-sources because I'm getting random crashes with those kernel version and acpi patches.
And I really need acpi for my laptop.
Anybody noticed the same weird thing?
(running still gentoo-sources-r7, 2.4.18 with patches) _________________ Cheers

Why not try gentoo-sources-r10 with "acpi4linux" as one of your use flags? This patches the sources with a significantly more up-to-date implementation of ACPI. I think the lolo-sources ebuild is similar.
It may not be stable and can even be dangerous apparently, but it hasn't done me any harm on three different machines.
EDIT: And if you've never updated the BIOS on your laptop, consider doing so because it may actually have a buggy ACPI implementation that has since been resolved. I cannot tell you how many machines I've had to upgrade the BIOS for Windows 2000 and XP simply to work (which use ACPI extensively by default). |
