Anyone know what would cause qmail-smtpd "starttls" command to respond with "454 TLS not available due to a temporary reason" I am connecting from a remote host behind a firewall via "telnet hostname 25".
qmail 1.03-r13
smtp, smtp-auth, and pop3 are all working beautifully.
I can't find anything in the logs, the error message on the socket is vague, and googling and searching the forums has yielded not results.
Thanks,

I have exactly the same problem.
I have tried a certificate with mkservercert and also set up my own CA and tried that.
I am seeing nothing useful in the logs.
Searched all over the 'net - the error is so vague and I am gqtting quite frustrated - don't suppose you came up with a solution? |

For posterity and in case anyone else starts tearing their hair out over this....
The problem was not qmail or my system - but rather Symantec AV!
The internet mail protect option was enabled but that does not understand tls.
Even though I was testing from a telnet window (you would have thought that would have gone straight through... no?) Symantec blocked the TLS session from starting.
Disabled internet mail autoprotect and it all works fine. |
