|
|
I have a Amd K6-3 with Soltek SL-54U5 motherboard (VIA VT82Cxxxxx chipset) and a Hauppauge WinTV Go.
Propably also worth mentioning that I use 2.6.9 kernel with udev.
Problem is that while watching tv and doing something else, it can work for hours with no trouble and then suddenly the whole system freezes, tv just keeps going, image and sound bot play fine, but mouse and keyboard stop answering. Nothing but reset works.
I am aware that for some reason bttv and VIA just don't seem to like each other. However, in Debian I solved this by giving bttv a parameter triton1=1, as I was adviced to do, but with Gentoo this approach doesn't seem to work.
And I do have compiled the chipset support to kernel.
I also tried putting the tv-card to another pci slot, but no luck.
Just in case it says anything to somebody, my lspci output:

I can make a wild guess that the problem has something to do with ide interface or irq sharing or something, but I have no idea what to do about it. |

Oh yeah, and I also noticed another thingy: if I just start xawtv, I get only a blue screen. I have to start it with -noxv even though I have compiled it with USE="-xv".
I used to use xv, but it felt slow (resize and stuff). On the other hand, overlay has an annoying habit of flickering when any tooltip gets over the area where the tv window is, even if it was under another window. But I guess I can live with that. ![Wink ](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |
