|
|
Often when I run a .wmv file or such, nautilus gives me a warning that it's not the right file type and that I have to run the command manually or right click to get the file to run.
This annoys me as I usually don't care if a file should be .asf instead of .wmv. How do I turn this off? |

This is from a security hole in .wmv. Change the extension to .asf and it'll run just fine. _________________ "Subtraction: Addition's tricky pal." --David Letterman

Read the message that comes up when you try to run it. It says that the file extension is .wmv but the contents show that it's a .asf file. If you tried running it there's a potential security risk.

Then you fix it, I'm just passing along my cure for the problem. _________________ "Subtraction: Addition's tricky pal." --David Letterman

If you tried running it there's a potential security risk. | Wmv files are basically the same than asf file, using a newer codec. Nautilus' security warning between ASF and WMV is completely stupid. Especially when the options are set so that both ASF and WMV would open with the same application.
It's the same as telling there's a security risk in opening a jpeg image that has the extension .jpeg instead of the usual .jpg |

Then email the Nautilus developers and tell them that. I get the same error, that's exactly what it says, and it says to rename the file as a .asf if you want the error message to go away. _________________ "Subtraction: Addition's tricky pal." --David Letterman
