My Display Keeps Tweaking Out

I think I have a display problem. Sometimes while using the console framebuffer while switching, the console will split in half and mirror itself; text will appear in green.

When I'm using standard text without the framebuffer, I can sometimes cause the console to show verticle bars that look like a UPC code. The system keeps working, but the display just freezes. I have a ThinkPad, so I tried switching the display from the LCD to the CRT then to both, but all I get then is violent blinking. I wasn't even in X when this happened.
