|
|
OK - I am completely lost on this. About 2 months ago I replaced the motherboard in my "other" computer. Since then I have not been able to get the sound working on that machine. But since it's an extra machine, it just hasn't been a big deal until now.
The sound card is enabled in the BIOS.
I know the speakers work.
The speakers are plugged into the right port on the sound card.
The speakers are turned on and the volume is turned up.
"alsaconf" DOES detect the sound card and properly configures /etc/modules.d/alsa
I ran modules-update.
alsasound IS started at boot up and the modules are loaded.
I have ran alsamixer and muted/unmuted ALL volume settings and adjusted the volume levels.
When I try to play a sound file, the system does NOT complain. It acts as though it is playing, but I hear nothing. I have tried mpg321, xmms, and RhythmBox.
I have no idea what else to try. |

I don't know if its your case, but for some reason alsa thought that I wanted to play in 4 or 6 speakers mode, and in my case as my soundcard had only 1 line in, 1 line out and 1 mic line alsa did output sound on the *line IN* line...
Maybe you should try it... _________________ --

Sorry but I simply don't understand what you said. "alsa thought that I wanted to play in or speakers mode"? Huh? |

Well thanks for the reply but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I moved the speaker wire to the line-in port but still there is no sound. |
