Hi guys,
I've got to buy a new webcam so, as everyone sould do before buying anything, I checked out on the forum which one to buy and here comes the troubles...
I like the creative webcam pro but the guy who used to work on PWC driver won't develop it anymore.
this webcam is currently supported and it does works perfectly with 2.6 kernels; the driver is discontinued though...does it mean that I won't be able to use my webcam pro with future version of kernels (2.8, 3.0, and so on?)
thanx =)

I saw that thread but it's focused on "why" it's gonna be discontinued rather than "what if I own a pwc cam"; tha last post is about how to patch a 2.6.9-rc1 kernel to make it works with pwc...I wouldn't wanna do this.
I'd like to buy a camera that just works, without patching or stuff; I'd like to have something new that works like my old cpia camera...compiled the right regular module in the regular kernel and that's it.
The sad thing is that cpia's camera are not in the stores anymore
...does anybody know a camera that...well, just works -and will- work? |

if someone is willing to pick up the open source part of the pwc driver, all they have to do is mail the linux USB maintainer a patch and offer to maintain it. it will then go back in the kernel. _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd |

Just curious, they want a maintainer just so that they can keep the modules in the kernel? The modules are being developed on the side, aren't they? Anyways, I don't have the skills to be a maintainer. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge than me will volunteer. |
