Does anybody know how to boot from a raid setup running on a Promise FastTrack 376 controller?
I have an Asus A7V8X mobo, and have set up a raid 1 array on two SATA disks. These are the only hard disks in the box. Windows installed all right on the raid, and it seems to work just fine. I have done a lot of installation work for Gentoo using the 2004.2 release. The livecd boots just fine and seems to recognize the raid setup as /dev/sdb. Though to tell you the truth I am not sure if it's recognizing the raid or two separate disks, and am not sure how to tell.
I've tried installing grub on the /dev/sdb[partition]. When I run the commands as specified in the installation handbook it says it succeeded, but no grub menu shows up when I reboot. I am assuming that means that the grub stuff is not getting properly written to the hard disk. But I guess it could mean that grub doesn't play with raid.
Has anybody gotten this to work? Anybody know how to boot from the raid setup? Or have a link to information about it?
Thanks. |

check out this site: http://www.linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html
I honetly don't think their fakeraid is any faster than software raid, seeing as the host CPU has to do most of the work anyways. |
