Thanks for the testing, I appreciate it. And after we get gDesklets-0.3x in the tree, I can start adding some new desklets...

Looks like a good candidate servermonk. Here's the http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/categories.php?func=gd_show_app&gd_app_id=178 for those of you playing at home.

i got the same error on goodweather as well as some other add-ins. about half the desklets in portage didn't work for me =/.

what i did is opened the gdesklet manager by doing:

Code:
gdesklets shell

and going to the gdesklet website: http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/categories.php

then you can simply drag the .gz file for the desklet you want into the shell window, and it'll install it for you. not all of them work, but goodweather did. i can't remember what else worked off the top of my head. i know the desklet-starter in portage would load but had all kinds of problems (couldn't edit the launchers after you create them, had to restart it every time you launched an app). desklets-ltvariations worked perfectly. i never tried corner-xmms, but corner-rhythmlet in portage was broken. the one on the site works. :o

Hi,
Thx for ur reply dirtyepic,
Previously i was doing the same..(Drag-and-drop) with *.gz file but even then there was an error.. The desklets i installed were from the website itlself.. Moreover i also tried downloading the *gz, unzipping it and then running the install_Good_Weather.bin file. It installed succesfully. The message was:
Code:
Sensor installed succesfully. Now the Display can use this sensor..

Whe i tried to open the gdesklets, the GoodWeather didnt show up..
But the desklet_starter that came with desklet-core-0.31.1 which is updated by OBZ is working just fine...

Do u think it has something to do with the catagories that gdesklets shell displays?? Bcos the desklet-starter was installed in toolbar/launcer catagory but all other are getting installed in Uncatagorized section.

what do u think?

Hey ksskruthic:
Are you using this new 0.31.1 gDesklets? Because the corner-xmms desklet never worked for me either until I installed the new core version. I've no idea why though. But it's working great for me :)

Hi ServerMonk,

Atlast CornerXMMS is working :). I removed previous package, restared Gentoo and EMERGEed it again. This is the first time gDesklets work on my laptop and it looks Great.. but Goodweather isnt working yet...
Well i have things to clarify..
(1) I see that XMMS need to be opened (displayed) while playing inorder for CornerXmms to work/control.... isnt there anyway to hide xmms so that i only use CornerXMMS to control actual XMMS Player..? ( i mean use CornerXMMS as the actual XMMS??)

(2)The skin and Buttons on the CornerXMMS display is pale as in 'no color'.. can we change the skin or button's color...?? (bcos the right-click says "This display is not configurable")

(3)What abt GoodWeather?

Kindly clarify me..
Thanks a lot :D

The goodweather desklet hasn't been updated for more than 10 months now - which puts it way behind gDesklets-0.3x. There's a chance, although I haven't had a good look at it's code - that it's not compatible with 0.3x and won't work.

We'll need to have a better look at the code, but unfortunately there's nothing I can do to solve incompatibilities like that, sorry.

Thanks.

Obz,
i know that we keep getting desklets with intuitive look and feel. I appreciate your work 8)
Also what is more important is the information thats on the desktop... right !!! So I think i'll try the other Weather desklets and let u know...(bcos i live in Michigan and weather forecast is important to me :) )

Hey, BTW can we do anything with the CornerXMMS ike changing the skin or color of the desklet (or its buttons)

Anyway, thanks for the gDesklets, :D

SK

i think i did find in in the uncategorized section. and now i don't actually know where it came from. all i know is that i tried quite a few that were broken and was glad to find one that did work and as a bonus, actually knew what a Saskatchewan was.

Doesn't work :(
when I run "gdesklets shell" I get the following

Code:
The Application "gDesklets" has quit unexpectedly.

and in the terminal

Code:

edit: recompiled using gcc 3.3.4 (as opposed to 3.4.2 which I had since yesterday). Thats not hte problem. IT compiles fine, doesn't run. I've also moved my .gdesklets directory to no avail.

HOWEVER I am running gnome 2.8.0 if htat matters

Did you install all the packages in the overlay (gnome-python-2.6, pyorbit-2.0.1) ?

Also install pygtk-2.4 if you haven't allready.

Thanks

Code:
~gnome-extra/gdesklets-core-0.31.1 ~x86
~dev-python/pygtk-2.4.0 ~x86
~dev-python/gnome-python-2.6.0 ~x86
~dev-python/pyorbit-2.0.1 ~x86

Those are the entries from /etc/portage.package.keywords
All the above are installed. I seemed to have swig installed already.

EDIT: what I meant was I have these packages installed, currently with the stable gcc 3.3.4. Still no go. I've also logged out of gnome and tried again, no avail

EDIT 2: gdesklets start gives the same error

Everything has been running perfectly for me (outside of my desktop switching anomaly). What sort of errors are you getting?

Well I still cannot get anything to work. I can get gdesklets -shell to come up and I can install sensors and stuff. But when I go to run them they don't work. This is what I get with StarterBar.....

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/gdesklets/factory/SensorFactory.py", line 83, in create_sensor
sensor = module.new_sensor(args)
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'new_sensor'

Any help?

Hi. I emerged everything in Obz' overlay, and then re-emerged pygtk 2.4.1, but "gdesklets start" fails. It throws a "This application has quit unexpectedly" popup, and dumps the following into my xterm:

Code:
Starting gdesklets-daemon...
Connected to daemon in 10009 milliseconds.
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/gdesklets", line 126, in ?
    open_profile(profile)
  File "/usr/bin/gdesklets", line 55, in open_profile
    d = get_daemon()
  File "/usr/bin/gdesklets", line 47, in get_daemon
    daemon.set_remove_command(os.path.abspath(sys.argv[0]) + " _remove")
AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'set_remove_command'

I've tried removing ~/.gdesklets and running gdesklets-migration-tool, but to no avail. Is there something I might be missing? I have GNOME 2.8 installed and am running a pure ~x86 system if that helps.

I am having the same problem.
Gnome 2.8, ~x86 only system, used Obj's overlay, compiled fine, but does not run.

It throws a "This application has quit unexpectedly" popup.
