Hi,

I have a server in a remote server farm and periodically sshd will stop responding. I can telnet to port 22 and I get this:
Code:

Escape character is '^]'.
SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.8.1p1

but when I try to connect I get the following:

Code:

debug1: Found key in /home/jubo/.ssh/known_hosts:3
debug2: bits set: 535/1024
debug1: ssh_rsa_verify: signature correct
debug2: kex_derive_keys
debug2: set_newkeys: mode 1
debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent
debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS
debug2: set_newkeys: mode 0
debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received
debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent
debug2: service_accept: ssh-userauth
debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received
debug2: key: /home/jubo/.ssh/identity ((nil))
debug2: key: /home/jubo/.ssh/id_rsa ((nil))
debug2: key: /home/jubo/.ssh/id_dsa (*)
Connection closed by *.*.*.*

Regardless of whether I try to use public key or password, the connection is immediately closed. I can go restart the server and I should be fine, but it is strange that ssh sometimes screws me over. Anyone encounter this?

Had similar problems after glibc upgrade. Other symptom was that I could ssh from local network (non-public IP address class). It was sufficient to restart sshd so it started to use the newly-compiled libs.

Rav

Hmm, I figure a restart will fix it, but I wish this didn't happen to frequently :? It has happened to me on two different systems this year, but I guess I am always doing emerge -uD worlds so I get what I deserve.

Thanks for posting your experience. I thought I was losing my mind when I could only log in from some hosts and not others. Restarting sshd fixed the problem.

glibc seems to be the culprit. restarting sshd solves it, but it's damn annoying when you remoteadmin =|
