x-server broken - how to boot into a console??? ** SOLVED **

Hello,

I messed up my XF86Config-4 file.

Now the computer seams to crash, when starting xfree.
And it does start automatically when booting (I am using gdm).

How can I avoid starting xfree to fix the problem from the console?

pass 'single' as a kernel parameter. This will boot you into a root prompt.

Yes, I appended "single" to the second line of my grub configuration, and it worked.
