diff'ing kernel trees was also about twice as fast last last time I benchmarked (back when my desktop was x86) |

R4 should generally be lots faster than reiserfs (just about anything is !).
R4 should have a small edge over ext3 for many small files, this concurs with uses like in the above posts about emerge sync and diffing kernels.
I have all my portage and portage_tmpdir on R4.
It seems most ppl having issues with R4 are using Intel hyper threading or SMP.
In those cases refer to your kernel support threads.

Reiser4, no problems here. I'm running xx-sources (2.6.10-rc1-xx2), http://xx-sources.sf.net if you want to give it a try. I put it up about 1 month ago, maybe more. _________________ It isn't enough to win - everyone else must lose, and you also have to rub it in their face (maybe chop off an arm too for good measure).

...or AMD64.
Another great thing about reiser4 is how much space it saves. I sized my partitions for reiser4 and they're getting a little cramped with reiserfs. |

About Reiser4's performance. I ran "time updatedb", it completed under 30 seconds. When I had ext-3 as a root, it took several minutes
Syncing Portage tree flies and everything works smoothly. I have been using Reiser4 for a 2 months now, not a single problem during this period. I have had more problems (corruption and stuff) with ext-3 than Reiser4.
Not a single Reiser4 related lockup, Reiser4 is stable on x86. Unfortunately AMD64 is another thing ![Neutral :|](images/smiles/icon_neutral.gif) |

what do you mean? i plan to set up my amd64 again with software raid5 and reiser4 as i'm not impressed with the raid5 performance i get with ext3. i haven't cared about amd64 and reiser4 yet but you seem to have some experience ... _________________ Easily backup up your system? klick
